I made a New Year's resolution a few years ago to read a book a month. I kept it that year, and have kept it up since! Lots of the things I read are trash and just for entertainment (#truth). Sometimes I push myself to read a classic or something that I feel will enrich me in some way. Occasionally I find an author I love and devour everything they've written before moving on. My favorite book of all time is the Lord of the Rings trilogy but I'm just as likely to read a Shopaholic book!
The vast majority of what I read is what I can get for free on my Kindle app through the Louisville public library. Do other cities have a service like this??? It's freakin awesome. You can borrow up to three books at a time and after two weeks the books just expire. It is 100% free and there are no trips to the library to return books and zero chance of late fees! Loves it.
So, with all of that said, here are some of the things I've read this year. Maybe you will find a new book that you'd like to read and hopefully I'll get a few recommendations from you of what I should read next!!
Well, looking back at this list for the first half of the year, it definitely is slanting a bit towards chic lit. I need some more classics, stat. LOL! Do you see anything here that you'd like to read? Have you read anything fantastic lately??

we get library books through kindle too. i read all the 50 shades books. yeah they were like, i am required to read them, but... meh.
ReplyDeleteYeah, well, the two of us have proven ourselves jaded and salty before, so this failure to be impressed comes as no surprise! LOL!
DeleteI really love this post. I love reading, and am constantly looking for good books. Thank you for sharing, I cannot wait to try out some of your book recommendations!
ReplyDeleteI was such a bookworm growing up and it's been so nice to be in the habit again!! Glad you found some inspiration for new reading material!! :)
DeleteOhhh, I've been dying to read Portia's book! Just put it on my hold list at the library & will be picking it up shortly! I also have House of Leaves and the Fault in our Stars waiting for me.
ReplyDeleteReally, maybe it's because I wasn't expecting much from it?, but I LOVED it. Hope you do, too! I'll have to look into those two other ones you have on hold!
DeleteI also tried the 50 Shades book because everyone else was doing it, but man, I just couldn't get past half-way. I hate the characters, they're a bad match in a terrible relationship and I just don't want them to end up together. Plus the sex scenes seemed repetitive. Oh well.
ReplyDeleteIkr? Totally agree on all counts. Definitely just kind of silly overall!
DeleteWe can get online books at our library too but I love the feel of a real book so I don't do it often. I do get audio books from my library to listen while I'm in carpool line or on the elliptical or whenever. The selection is limited but I've found some decent books to listen too. This is a great resolution. I love it.
ReplyDeleteYou know, I said the same thing FOREVER and was one of the last people to convert. The library giving me free things on my iPad is what did it but I will always love the feel of a book and the process of turning real pages!! :)
